Many children with ASD have difficulties with fine motor skills. Fine motor skills are essential for performing everyday skills (e.g. clothing fastenings, opening lunch boxes, cleaning teeth, using cutlery), academic skills (e.g. pencil skills of drawing, writing and colouring, cutting and pasting), and appropriate independence in ‘life’ skills (such as getting dressed and feeding themselves).

Reduced ability to complete these every day tasks can result in lower self-esteem, poorer academic performance and limited play options. It’s therefore essential that these skills are targeted both in and out of the water. This is such a handy resource which is aimed to guide both aquatic professionals and parents.
